About Zicharon

Zicharon is a not for profit organization catering to the special needs of Orthodox Jewish families suffering the devastating upheaval caused by Dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s Disease is a degenerative illness that unfortunately has no cure at this time. At Zicharon we provide families with information on how to live with the disease, to help ease the pain of both patient and caregiver. We understand the unique issues affecting heimishe dementia patients; obstacles involved in going to shul, Shabbos, Yom Tov etc. Zicharon offers extensive information regarding safety, homecare, Medicaid applications, tracking devices and other services that can benefit Dementia patients and their families.

Caring for our community for over 20 years

Zicharon offers caregiver support meetings led by trained, frum professionals who have personal experience dealing with Dementia patients. These meetings present caregivers the opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow caregivers, voice their concerns, share suggestions on dealing with common issues and network with other caregivers.

Things To Know

Homecare law changes implemented in 2012 have made it difficult to obtain the care required for your loved one to remain in the comfort of their own home. Our homecare experts will guide you through the complex maze of homecare options and help figure out what works best for you. Assistance with Medicaid planning and pooled income trusts for the elderly/disabled who are over the income levels for Medicaid eligibility, is also available.

Learn how to communicate with a person suffering from Dementia.  Skills for dealing with anger, anxiety, repetitive questions, forgetfulness and more.

Remembring them when they don't

Zicharon offers advice on Safety products to reduce the hazards of safety issues unique to our community, such as Shabbos candles, Chanukah licht and stoves left on over Shabbos. We offer suggestions on how to navigate the challenges of going to shul three times daily and solutions that can reduce the worry over a loved one’s safe return.

There’s no cure for Alzheimer’s, but there are treatments that may change disease progression, and drug and non-drug options that may help treat symptoms. Understanding available options can help individuals living with the disease and their caregivers to cope with symptoms and improve quality of life. With the constantly evolving dementia treatments, it is difficult to navigate the treatment options.  Zicharon can guide you to the right medical professional who can help manage each patient’s particular needs.
